Before you call for appliance service, take a photo of the full model and serial number label if you can reach it safely. The exact model number helps us look up the right service information and parts for your appliance. The common label locations are below, but your manufacturer’s guide is the best reference for your model.
Safety first: only look where you can see safely. Don’t remove a control panel, pull out a built-in appliance or lift a cooktop just to find the label. If you can’t see it, just tell us when you call and the technician will find it at the visit.
Refrigerators
On most refrigerators the label is inside the fresh-food compartment: on a side wall, near the top, or along the edge where the door meets the cabinet. On some models it’s on the outside of the cabinet. The model number is also in your manual and on your receipt or delivery paperwork.
Washers
On washers, check under the lid on a top-loader, or around the door opening on a front-loader. Some models have it on the back or side of the cabinet.
Dryers
On dryers, open the door and look around the door opening or on the inside of the door. Some models have it on the back. A separately made washer and dryer each have their own model and serial number, even when they’re stacked, so photograph the label on the one that needs service. A one-piece laundry center may have a single label; check its manual.
Dishwashers
On dishwashers, open the door and look along the side or top edge of the door, or on the tub frame where the door closes. On some models the number is engraved into the metal edge, which can be hard to spot.
Ovens, ranges and stoves
With the oven off and cool, open the oven door and look along the frame or the edge of the door. On many ranges and stoves the label is near the storage or broiler drawer, so open the drawer and check the frame around it. Locations vary by model.
Cooktops
On cooktops the label is often on the underside, which you may be able to see from the cabinet below. Don’t lift or remove the cooktop to reach it; if you can’t see it safely, the technician will find it.
Taking a readable photo
Turn on your phone’s flash or use a flashlight, hold the camera straight on to the label, and check that the model and serial numbers are sharp before you call. Keep the photo for your records.
